Ramon Oscar Lopez was born in Miami to a family of Cuban descent.  Although he grew up never meeting his father who was a welder, scholar, philosopher, self-taught musician, sculptor, and painter, Lopez showed artistic promise early on.  He began formal art training in Miami's top magnet art program at the age of 12.  He knew he wanted to continue his training by going to the prestigious New World School of the Arts High School where he won several local, regional, and national accolades, including Scholastic's American Vision Award and Honorable Mention in YoungArts.  Lopez graduated 6th in his class, demonstrating strong academic as well as artistic merit.

After applying to five art schools for his undergraduate studies, Lopez made the very hard decision to decline a full merit scholarship from RISD, among other generous offers from MICA, Washington University St. Louis, and CIA.  He majored in Illustration at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, where he graduated with honors in 2008.

In 2009 he was offered an Art Internship working with national peace-mural artist, Ana Houng.  Later that year, he was awarded the Artist in Residency at the Miami Children’s Museum and he co-founded the Flagler Arts Space, LLC along with Anne Blazejack, Juan Travieso, Leo Castaneda, and Reinier Gamboa.  He has exhibited in the many art districts of Miami including the Design District, Bird Road, Coconut Grove, and Wynwood and beyond.

In 2015, Lopez graduated from FIU's College of Arts, Sciences, & Education with a Master of Science in Art Education; an atelier-styled program where he studied under art critic Dr. Alpesh Patel and Frost Professor David Chang.  His studies included Academic and Classical paradigms within Still-Life, Portraiture, and Landscape genres.  His thesis was a highly personal body of 8 works that dealt with issues of masculinity and identity.  These paintings were set in allegorical and nightmarish scenes where figures dwelled and interacted with each other.

Lopez has committed further to art and community by educating some of the next generation of artists; he has taught at Doral Performing Arts & Entertainment Academy since 2010.  He has a wife and two sons and lives and works in Miami, Florida.
